Das Gelübde (The Vow)

Clemens Brentano is an artist at his peak but he doesn´t want to be an artist.
The poet and bon vivant acts as an intermediary and sits beside the bed of a nun,
Anna Katharina Emmerich, to become the "Writer of the Wonders of God"
and record her visions and points of view.
Emmerich became famous because of the stigmata on her breast, forehead and hands.
Believers made the pilgrimage to the sick bed of the severely weakened nun
to receive favour and solace. Brentano has high hopes for his encounter with the nun.
However, the meeting of the famous poet with Anna Katharina Emmerich leads
to a crossroads for them both.

The film script from Markus Busch and Dominik Graf is based on stories
handed down since 1818 from generation to generation in the small Westfalian town of Dülmen
and on the novel of the same name by Kai Mayer. (WDR Press Release)
